I gotta put down some thoughts on the Giants. I understand liking the way they are playing, and I understand why they should be considered a top NFC team. But first everyone take one deep breath and remember that their six wins are against Philly (3-4), the Jets (1-7), Atlanta (1-6), San Fran (2-5), Miami (0-8), and Washington (7-52). Those teams are a combined 11-33. Eleven wins.
This bye week is huge, as they always are in this violent sport. The Cowboys at home is the first major test. An ex-NFL quarterback once said that offenses are typically ready to go in week one, while it always takes the defense several weeks to get going. Giving up 80 points to Tony Homo and Old Man Winter don't look so good, but the two teams most people have in front of the
GMen are the Packers and Cowboys. I'm giving them a pass on those games (that's not gonna haunt me later...)
Again, let's wait until Dallas comes into town before there is more Super talk.... but if Big Blue becomes Big Bad Blue and just runs the football down the throats of opposing defenses, and Eli continues to limit his mistakes and nail the
playaction deep ball, then we got a serious Super Bowl team. That is assuming the defense holds up. They are playing so well right now it would be a shame to see them falter.
The remaining schedule is very favorable for the Giants:
Cowboys - the test
@Lions - the potential let down game if Giants beat Cowboys, and the potential "oh shit, here's last year again" game.
Vikes -
feisty team at 2-5. If the Giants are trying to run as I said above, and the
Vikes are stopping them, then we got a problem. Oh wait, the Vikings haven't figured out how to stop the pass yet.
@Bears - This. Team. Sucks. Saw them in person against the Lions. Checklist item number 17 on "does your team suck?": Introduces the Special Teams to avoid booing of own team. Seriously, Devin Hester is by far the best player on this team. Sorry
Urlacher, Briggs, and
Griese (not really).
@ Eagles - Said it before, said it again. You play a team twice a year, sometimes three, it should be a tossup game. You should both know everything the other team is going to do. Should. You should also bench an aging and degrading quarterback and plan for the future (nods to the Jets, glares at Miami).
Skins - see above, but come on, 52-7?
@ Bills - "Look ahead" game. Which brings us to:
Patriots - Even though I can pretty much guarantee that the Patriots will not be 15-0 heading into this game, there is a slight chance they will be 15-0 heading into this game and the Giants could need this game for home field advantage in the playoffs. "Could".
Giants should be fine during the rest of the season yet they better be ready for the Cowboys and Lions so as not to start the snowball rolling.
